I’ve found some quirks while updating Expression Engine 1.6.8 to 2.0. Here’s some updating advice:
- Follow the updating documents closely. Back-up your config and templates and place them into your new installation.
- If you saved your templates to files:
- FIRST: The updating process is not clear when converting your templates fails, so make sure and put some error outputting in place!
- SECOND: Create a clean back-up of your template files and make modifications to the files when the updater throws errors. Then move the files over to the designated template directory. If the updater tries to convert templates but fails, you have a bigger mess to clean up. It’s better to wipe out the new template + template 1.x directories and re-upload the modified template files.
- THIRD: If your templates can’t be found, but the physical files exists, simply populate that file with some PHP. I found that blank templates throw a errors.
- Update your config file with correct paths if your control panel does not display images.
So SpiderOak has been working EXTREMELY well for me lately. I have it installed on my Mac, Windows and Linux and it syncs all three computers flawlessly. I had to ditch SugarSync because they don’t support Linux. I am a fan of SugarSync in many ways, however the syncing drove me nuts.
The beauty was SpiderOak was effortless to install and sync across platforms after watching a 3 minute video. I’d say it took me 10 minutes to sync all three computers. I got tired of SugarSync and Dropbox syncing issues (duplication drove me nuts!) Yes, SugerSync and Dropbox do have iPhone apps, but I used that feature rarely. Chances are if I needed to send a client files, I had better jump on my laptop.
Finally, I like SpiderOak’s privacy policy. They won’t ever have access to your files and they make a strong commitment to never question your content. It’s good to know a company that supports complete privacy.
In conclusion, I say give’em a try if you want seamless, online backup done right!
Try SpiderOak now!
UPDATE: Try using coupons codes “spring” or “reddit” for some extra savings!
Web designers and developers are not necessarily good project managers or account specialists. We need a piece of software that is highly intuitive and simple to use. I’ve been using Harvest App for about a year now and I have to say it is ideal for freelancers or contractors looking to stay on budget and invoice clients accurately, while being prepared for tax season. You can even export all your data to Quickbooks, if you’re into that sorta thing.
I’ve used Harvest App with teams and now, I’m using it solo. The Business Plan helped us previously save time on invoicing and gathering project hours. It was as simple as running a automated report, converting the report into an invoice, and sending the bill to our clients! Harvest App is offering a 30 Free Trial so check it out and see it the product is right for you!
Ever want to invest in the stock market? Think you have a handful of companies that are solid? I highly recommend the option of investing at this point of our economy. But first, educate yourself a bit about investing and speculating. I recomend, “Stock Investing for Dummies.” It’s a fairly straight-forward guide to making realistic investments.
I’m no expert, but I’ve seen all my recently purchased stock rise substantially, some doubling. Even if you can only afford $500 – $1,000, it’s a great time to get into the market, understand the system, and see some growth.
I use Zecco Trading as they have low trade rates and have a fairly simple interface to work with. They also have plenty of training videos and glossaries to understand the world of trade: Zecco Trading
